Why do your clients need Travel Insurance? 

Even though more people are traveling, the pandemic continues to go on and at any given moment, breaking news can change your travel plans unexpectedly. This is the best time to promote and push travel insurance for your clients.

Travel insurance is coverage designed to protect against risks and financial losses that could happen while traveling. The risks range from minor inconveniences such as missed airline connections and delayed luggage all the way to more serious issues including injuries or major illness.

Dependending on who you sell for, different providers offer different plans with a mix of these coverages and more, so be sure to educate yourself about all the options before choosing one. One way to tackle this is to determine your specific needs and find a plan that fits. As an agent, you can answer all questions and help clients enroll in a plan.

According to the U.S. Travel Insurance Association, in 2018, roughly 65.8 million people had trip insurance protection, reflecting a 49% increase from 2016. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those numbers are likely to continue to grow.


It’s important to know that while there are many reasons to buy travel insurance, certain things may not be covered under travel insurance. If the client has a pre-existing condition, help find a plan that provides a pre-existing condition waiver. If they’re visiting an area with political unrest, check into what coverage a policy provides if they wish to cancel due to problems in the area. Travel insurance policies cover some incidences of tour operator defaults due to financial issues.

Make sure to have a list of questions and scenarios to why your client would like to cancel. These include trip delays, school year extension, work-related trips, and many more.  

Travel insurance includes many important benefits and getting acquainted with them can empower the client to make the right choice about which coverage type to consider for traveling.
