Throughout the year, there are often SEP’s that could open enrollment opportunities for you as an agent and your prospects. It’s easy to miss these SEP’s, so we’ve compiled a list for you!
A SEP can be triggered by anything the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) deems significantly negatively impacting a Medicare beneficiaries’ ability to enroll in health insurance options that meet their needs.
SEPs allow all the Medicare beneficiaries identified in the SEP to enroll in a regular Medicare Advantage, Prescription Drug, or sometimes even Medicare Supplement Plans for a specified period. This is why all Medicare agents must know the SEPs in their business areas.
Natural disasters declared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are often seen by CMS as justification for issuing a SEP for an area declared a FEMA disaster area.
Agility partner Humana generated the list of SEPs below on this blog for agents to reference. It’s 33 pages long and covers most states nationwide.
Agility strongly encourages Medicare agents to review this list carefully as it has multiple SEPs in many states. Each SEP’s specific rules, timeframes, and geographic counties are included. You can find updates about disaster area declarations on the FEMA website.
Medicare agents can follow up with Agility or a carrier you contract with in the geographically impacted area where the SEP occurs. Contact Agility at 1-(866) 590-9771 or email [email protected].
