January 1 Effective ACA Deadline Extension for Healthcare.gov Marketplace Only

ACA 2020 Poverty Guidelines

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced an extension of the deadline to enroll in coverage that begins Jan. 1, 2025, for Marketplace consumers in the 31 states using HealthCare.gov.

These states are:

Alabama

Alaska

Arizona

Arkansas

Delaware

Florida

Hawaii

Illinois

Indiana

Iowa

Kansas

Louisiana

Michigan

Mississippi

Missouri

Montana

Nebraska

New Hampshire

North Carolina

North Dakota

Ohio

Oklahoma

Oregon

South Carolina

South Dakota

Tennessee

Texas

Utah

West Virginia

Wisconsin

Wyoming

These consumers have an additional three days—until midnight local time Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 (no later than 5 a.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 19)—to secure a full year of coverage for 2025.

Consumers can get help by calling the HealthCare.gov call center at 1-800-318-2596 (TYY: 1-855-889-4325), with assistance available in over 200 languages 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Additionally, consumers can find a local agent or broker in their area by visiting HealthCare.gov and selecting the “Find Local Help” option.

Marketplace Open Enrollment runs through Jan. 15 on HealthCare.gov.

In states that use HealthCare.gov, Marketplace consumers who enroll after the Dec. 18 extended deadline will have coverage that starts Feb. 1, 2025.

Consumers in D.C. and the 19 states that operate their State-based Marketplace should visit their state Marketplace website for additional information on deadlines and effective dates for coverage.
