On March 19, 2025, the company that owns Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), officially completed the acquisition of The Cigna Group’s Medicare business. The deal’s closing presents new opportunities and seamless continuity for agents selling Cigna Healthcare Medicare products.
What This Means for Agents
If you are already adequately contracted, appointed, and certified, you can continue selling the following Cigna Healthcare plans with no disruption:
- Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Supplement and Cigna Supplemental Benefits
- Medicare Part D
For agents who aren’t credentialed and contracted, we will keep you informed about the process and opportunities to become eligible to sell Cigna Healthcare products.
No Changes to Agent Hierarchy
No changes are planned to the agent hierarchy. You should continue using your current hierarchy for the specific product you are selling. Additionally, all sales tools and platforms you currently use for these products will remain the same.
Impact on Members
During the 2025 plan year, BCBSTX and Cigna Healthcare members will continue to be enrolled in and covered by their existing plans. The brand names will also remain unchanged as the integration process continues.
