Get Covered Illinois Extends Its OEP Jan. 1 Effective Enrollment Deadline to Dec. 31

Get Covered Illinois is extending its first open enrollment deadline from December 15 to December 31. With this extension, ACA clients using Get Covered Illinois now have until December 31 to choose a health plan to be effective on Jan. 1, 2026.

If a client selects a plan by December 31, their coverage will begin on January 1, so they’ll start the new year with health coverage in place. All customers can take advantage of the deadline extension.

There is no “eligibility” needed as this is not a Special Enrollment Period, so there is no need to have a Qualifying Life Event. Illinois is extending the deadline to give customers every opportunity to enroll in a health plan that meets their needs.

The final deadline to enroll in a health plan through Get Covered Illinois is still January 15. Customers who enroll by January 15 will have coverage that begins February 1. But if a client’s coverage ends on December 31, they may experience a lapse in coverage.

Now is the time to enroll Get Covered Illinois clients to keep continuous coverage.
