Important Update on UnitedHealthcare NPN Usage

Important Update on UnitedHealthcare NPN Usage

We want to share an important update about how National Producer Numbers (NPNs) will be used moving forward. Starting September 1, 2025, all agents submitting applications for UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family Plans will need to use their own assigned NPN.

This change will also be reflected in the 2026 contract amendments for both agencies and agents.

Why This Change is Being Made

In the past, using another agent’s or principal’s NPN (known as an NPN override) has led to challenges in tracking activity, addressing concerns, and maintaining proper oversight. By streamlining how NPNs are used, we’re improving transparency and supporting stronger compliance, while also continuing to back the success of our agent and agency partners.

What to Expect

  • Better tracking and reporting: Enrollment activity will now be tied directly to each agent’s or solicitor’s NPN, allowing for more accurate performance insights at both the agent and agency levels.

  • Improved visibility: Agents and solicitors will appear as the official agent of record and will be able to view their own book of business, while still operating under their agency’s hierarchy. As always, book ownership stays with the upline agency.

  • Compliance and credentials: We’ll ensure that all enrolling agents are properly licensed and appointed, helping to maintain alignment with state and federal requirements.

We appreciate your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at support@enrollinsurance.com or your UnitedHealthcare representative.
