Effective January 1, 2026, Humana is terminating its Optum Medicare provider contracts in Texas and Washington, as well as its CarePlus contracts. The original Texas termination date was December 21, 2025.
Impacted Humana members, including pre-effective members, are receiving notification letters. Humana is directing HMO members to select a new PCP either online or by contacting Humana Customer Service.
Some Humana members may contact their Medicare selling agents directly for guidance. Agility recommends you offer the following advice to these Humana members:
- Direct members to use the “Find Care” or “CarePlus Find a Doctor” tools to find a new PCP.
- Suppose these Humana members want to continue seeing their current Optum physician(s). In that case, you need to help them quickly find the best Medicare plan in their area that provides them access to these Optum physicians before December 7, the end of AEP.
